Maui Activities

When it comes to West Maui attractions and activities, the sky is the limit! From enjoying a delicious Ululani’s Shave Ice under the shade of Lahaina’s Banyan Tree to a day of fun in the sun at Ka’anapali Beach, there is no shortage of attractions to make your day in paradise a memorable one.
Some of our favorite West Maui activities include:
Attend a Luau
When staying in Lahaina or Kaanapali, The Sheraton Maui Luau offers a wonderful experience. Watch hula dancers, fire spinners and musicians perform while sipping a mai tai and enjoying delicious local food.

Hop Aboard a Boat Tour
Trilogy Excursions offers a wonderful assortment of boat tours from West Maui, including a Ka’anapali Sunset Sail, Lahaina Picnic Snorkel & Sail, Ka’anapali Snorkel, and even sailing and snorkeling trips to the neighbor island of Lanai!

Whale Watching
West Maui is one of the best whale watching areas in the world due to the shallow channel that lies between West Maui and the neighbor islands of Lanai and Molokai. Grab a blanket and seat on the beach and enjoy whale watching from shore

Tour the Road to Hana
By far Maui’s most famous road trip, the Road to Hana is a right of passage for any true Maui traveler. While visitors are of course invited to drive themselves along the breathtaking winding road, many opt to take the stress – and planning – out of the experience by joining a luxury guided van tour with Road to Hana Tours. Sit back and soak in the incredible views in their 11 passenger tour van, and stop for further exploration at many of the best local sites, including the dramatic Keanae Peninsula, historic Kahanu National Tropical Garden, Wai’anapanapa State Park and Hana Town itself.

Snorkeling around Lahaina
There are many places to snorkel on the west side that will blow your mind! We love Kapalua Bay, Napili, Honolua, and also Olowalu (pictured below.) Ask about the best spots to snorkel from the shore when renting your snorkel hear from Boss Frogs. (808) 856-4264

Get a Massage
Every day on vacation spent with a sore back or neck is another day you’re not completely relaxed. Why not call Maui’s Best Massage and find out the true meaning of a vacation in paradise? With their massage outcall services that come to you, the only effort you need to make is scheduling a day and time. Their expert massage therapist will work out the tightest of knots and have you singing “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” in no time! (808) 426-7418

Private Sailing Charter
In stark contrast to the blustery seas of Maui’s north shore, the waters off Lahaina are consistently calm and perfect for sailing. Book a private sailing cruise with Maui Custom Charters and climb aboard your choice of a 47′ sailing catamaran or a 42-foot sailing yacht. Maui Custom Charters departs out of breezy Ma’alaea Harbor and will take you way west to calmer waters, getting the best of both worlds. West Maui is already stunning, but the views from the sea are unique and unforgettable!

Get Married
The experienced staff at Simple Maui Wedding are no strangers to perfect weddings. Their beach ceremony locations make your dreamy day complete, with the aqua waters and stunning sunsets. There are a few different beaches in Lahaina to choose from and these planners will help you find the perfect place for your day! Olowalu Plantation is an oceanfront home with an oceanfront lawn that will melt your heart! Kapalua Beach is that classic Maui beach, with sugary sand and gentle waves breaking on shore. Napili Beach is one of Maui’s prettiest coves, sparkling blue water and you might even have monk seals in attendance at your ceremony!

West Maui Surf Lessons
Hawaiian Paddle Sports offers private Maui surf lessons just outside Lahaina, where gentle morning waves create the perfect setting for beginners. Instructors give each guest personal attention, helping you paddle out, pop up, and ride while taking in views of the West Maui Mountains and nearby islands.

Hike Honolua Ridge
HeleWai Eco-Tours’ Honolua Ridgeline Hike is the perfect option for those who like to get off the beaten path. Serene, educational, and inspiring, it takes small groups into some of the Upper West Side’s remotest and most beautiful places.

Kush Fine Art
Head to The Shops at Wailea for a visit to Kush Fine Art and Jewelry, and see Vladimir Kush’s paintings, limited edition prints, sculpture, and jewelry in person. The original Lahaina gallery on Front Street was lost in the August 2023 fires, so the Wailea space now serves as the Maui home base while the team rebuilds. Browsing and buying here supports local staff and a gallery rooted in the island, and you will leave with a Maui keepsake that lasts.

Make a Sunrise Trip to Haleakala
Grab a seat in a 12 seater custom cruiser for the journey of a lifetime through Upcountry Maui to reach the 10,023 foot summit of Haleakala Volcano in time to witness a sunrise for yourself. Haleakala Tours offers round trip transportation, information from a local guide, a light breakfast before sunrise, warm beverages at the summit, and a Maui style breakfast buffet after sunrise for guests of all ages.

Visit the Maui Butterfly Farm
Not only did we get to hang out in an open-air room with butterflies flying all around us, but we had them land on us! At the Maui Butterfly Farm, we also learned about their important role as pollinators. We had a great time and would do it again.

Go Ziplining in Kapalua
We’ve done all the ziplines across Maui, and this is our favorite one! At Kapalua Ziplines, you get rainforest immersion as well as ocean views will zipping across Maui.

Hawaii Food and Wine Festival
Events across three islands include a Maui festival portion in Ka’anapali that’s worth booking well in advance.

Celebrate Pau Hana
Every hour is happy hour in Maui! Enjoy a fresh, local cocktail from some of the best restaurants on the island while watching a beautiful Maui sunset over the water.
