I had a great time at Halloween on Front Street in Lahaina this year! If you've never been, it's a must-do. Front Street usually gets shut down to cars and it's just one big Halloween party. There are a costume contests, bustling bars and often live music. It's such a fun atmosphere and it's great for people watching. I went with a group of friends and we had a blast!
IMPORTANT NOTE: They only closed the street for the keiki parade this year (2022), then it was opened back up for cars the rest of the night. So we had to stay on the sidewalks — not nearly as fun and we saw far less of a variety of costumes because we just walked with the same set of costumes in front and behind us. hopefully it’s open all night next year.
Thank you Maui Accommodations for sharing these photos and videos. If you're looking for more events around this time of year, check out their Things to do on Maui in Fall.
That being said, the bars were going off, which made for quite a bit of fun and spectacle. The costumes were amazing this year. There were so many creative and clever ones. My favorite was a family that was dressed up as the Addams Family. They had Morticia, Gomez, Wednesday, Pugsley, Uncle Fester, and Lurch. They looked like they stepped right out of the TV show/movies! I also saw a group of girls dressed as the Spice Girls, which was nostalgic. And there was even a guy in a Tide PODs costume! That one made me laugh out loud.
As soon as I arrived on Front Street, I could feel the excitement in the air. There were so many people out and about in their costumes! I saw everything from zombies to mermaids to cowboys. And of course, there were plenty of Maui police officers too. It was so much fun seeing everyone's creative costumes.
I spent most of the evening walking around and taking in all the sights and sounds. There was live music playing at a few bars. The best part is that everyone is so friendly. People were stopping to take pictures with each other left and right. By the end of the night, I felt like I knew half the people on Front Street! By the end of the night, I was exhausted but had had so much fun. I can't wait to do it again next year. Even though it was still a lot of fun, Covid has given those in power too much control over restricting good times.
